First off, we’d like to thank everyone who has come into the store and contacted us to congratulate us on the upcoming changes. When you start a small business, you have certain plans in mind, and you never know just where life will take you. As it happens, this year we’re moving in a different direction. We’re moving to Canora.
As of August 31st, 2016, you’ll be able to find your favourite comic shop at 10132 151st Street NW – just a hair north of Stony Plain Road. As with our soon-to-be-former Oliver location, we deliberated long and hard about where we wanted to go next. We knew that West Edmonton was in need of a comic shop after Comic King left the west end, but we realized that we still wanted to be fairly central in order to serve our current clientele. Our new location on 151st features the best of both worlds – and places us right in the middle of one of the most exciting areas in Edmonton.
Last year, when Danica and I were living outside of the city, we travelled down Stony Plain Road twice a day, unwittingly passing the location we would soon call home. In that time, we were privileged to witness some of the area’s recent developments progress first hand, bit by bit. Admittedly, when you’re in the midst of traffic at the start of a day, you’re not too excited to wait while people painstakingly rebuild. In hindsight, we’re happy to have seen this progression, and to be a part of what’s to come in this great area.
We’re excited to be just two blocks away from the weekly Yeg Market District that will be running on Fridays up until September 16th of this year (and we plan on visiting this Friday to get a jump on things!). What’s more, we’re just a few blocks away from Grant MacEwan’s Centre for the Arts and Communications, and we’re excited to be a part of that vibrant scene.
Right from the start, we’ve been proud to call ourselves community builders – and that’s not going to change. In this location, we hope to become a cultural touchstone. A place where everyone can come together and share in a love of pop culture and community. As we settle, you’ll be seeing news about a few hallmarks of Variant Edition that will be returning to the store, including another great clothing swap and podcast meetings, as well as news about a fantastic creator signing, and more! We’re excited to be at the start of something wonderful once more, and look forward to seeing everyone again in this new space.
We are still selling comics at our original location of 10441 – 123rd Street until August 27th, 2016. Keep an eye on our various social media feeds to keep track of more exciting news to come!
