So this is exciting.
Over the past couple of weeks, as we’ve been settling into the new space, we’ve been putting together something that will make Variant Edition stronger and better than ever. We decided that today, would be the announcement of this big change, and in solidarity, Edmonton decided to turn the weather dial, and coat the city in fresh, white snow.
The first snowfall is a great metaphor – arriving and changing the landscape in a moment. While some don’t look forward to snow, we like what it brings to the city. It unites us in strange ways, all of us in this community, huddled and bundled, prepared to meet the cold and let loose our hearty natures.
We are please to announce the next chapter in Variant Edition’s grand story – we will be adding a robust used book section to our new location (10132 – 151st Street), and we’re bringing someone along for the ride.
Jared Henze will be in charge of our prose book section, bringing his years of experience in the used book industry (and his love of pop culture) to Variant Edition. We’re very excited to not only be West Edmonton’s comic book shop, but its only used book store as well, and extremely happy that Jared will be huge part of this business going forward.
Now, without further adieu, here’s Jared to talk about himself, and what he’ll be bringing with him.
Hey all! Jared here, I’m looking forward to seeing all your faces as we move forward with this exciting, new venture of ours! But who is this mysterious stranger you will be seeing in your friendly neighbourhood comic shop peddling the books? Here’s a few things about yours truly:
- I’ve worked in the book industry for approximately 8 years in all sorts of venues. I’ve sold books in large scale new bookstores, small scale used bookstores and even had a stint in the library realm.
- I ran a local sci fi/fantasy club for three years, drowning myself in the vastness of all aspects of pop culture.
- I am known to dress up as Where’s Waldo and dash off into crowded areas.
- My signature move is the Muppet Flail (Several ceiling-mounted televisions have suffered as a result).
All of these should be of great aid to our new adventures but the one of the most important things I bring to Chapter 3 is a new company intern!
This little delights name is Bluebell. She is a tiny terror who will stalk your pen as you use it and will steal anything that is not tied down. We hope to reform this tiny criminal but forgive her shenanigans as she is so darn cute.
Together, we hope to continue to bring great pop culture experiences to Edmonton, and build a great community.
Please join us for the official start of this brand new chapter on Saturday October 22nd, when we host our grand re-opening. More details to come! And once again, thank you all for coming with us on this journey, and being a part of our story. Here’s to many great chapters to come.
